This is a photographic key which gives all the key differences between the Native White Claw Crayfish and many of the invasive species which seem to have replaced the native in most parts of the country. The specimens photographed in this key are all preserved and were donated for my use by the Ipswich Environment Agency, invasive species should not be returned to the site where they are found and should be dispatched on site.
This is a 5 page PDF covering Great Diving Beetles, as well as the Great Silver Water Beetle. The photos are all taken in Suffolk, allow you to tell males from females and identify with only a hand lens all British Species whilst alive.
This pdf uses drawings of the most distinct parts of the bodies of water beetle larvae, along with a glossary explaining the terminology you need to know when using a hand lens or microscope on preserved specimens. A flow chart system allows you to work your way to genus level and gives the number of species in each.
A mixture of line drawings and specially photographed specimens are used to show the key morphological details needed to identify, the British Species of Water Scorpions, Stick Insects, Saucer Bugs, River Bugs and Boatmen.
This guide will identify the majority of British species but should not be seen as a substitute for a complete key to these bugs. The drawings are merely a short cut to the males of most common species.
