New from The Suffolk Naturalists
Society:
THE SUFFOLK NATURE BLOG
In addition to the main pages of the Suffolk Nats website and White Admiral on line
you can now read the Suffolk Nature Blog.
You may have read about Blogs (or ‘web logs’) in the press or discovered them on the internet yourself. Whilst I have seen
them described as ‘on line ramblings by people with no life’ hopefully our Blog will
be a useful adjunct to our member services.
The Aim of the Blog?
To put it simply the aim is to share information across the membership. And, since
the Blog is open to public view it may be hoped to encourage a few new members in
time.
What will appear on the Blog?
The Blog will contain short notes or pieces of writing concerned only with Natural
History in Suffolk.
This could be sightings of rare or unusual species.
It could be interesting or unusual behaviour of birds, mammals or insects.
Perhaps it will be unusual forms of flowers, trees or other plants that someone
has seen.
Maybe a member wants to ask a question that someone else may know the answer to
or is just so pleased with a recently taken photo that they would like to share it with
others.
Additional benefits
We will also regularly publish updated details or changes to SNS field trips, and any
important information from the SNS Council on the Blog. In this way we can get
changes to events or sudden information notified to members instantly, for no cost
where it is usually impossible to send in a printed form.
Can photographs be submitted?
Articles on the Blog can be short or long and can have photographs in them.
Articles can be submitted (posted) into different sections of the Blog (listed on the
left hand side of the page). For example there is one section especially for SNS and
other natural history events taking place in Suffolk. The number of sections will I
hope increase with time. There is already a photo gallery.
So I have to keep logging on to see if anything is new!
No. By becoming a registered ‘member’of our Blog you can choose to have an email
sent to you when a new entry is posted. You can also choose to have notification
of new postings only in those sections you are interested in. You can de-register
at any time.
Who will be writing the entries on the Blog?
Hopefully you will. Any SNS member can e-mail
giving
him a pen name to appear on the blog and a password and then by using these you
will be able to write articles on the Blog! It is as easy as browsing the internet,
you need no special software. Anyone can do it. You can find further information
on the SNS website just
As always, this will work only if we use it. The Blog could be a really great way to
spread information around county naturalists, flag up sites and species at risk and get
in touch with like minded naturalists. But, if nobody uses it, it will simply disappear.
