Natural History Photograph Gallery

Do you take photographs of natural history subjects?
Would you like to share and exchange results with other naturalists?

On the Internet Edition of White Admiral, I have started an on-line photo gallery of natural history subjects. If you go to the 'Regular Items' section of the floating menu at the top of this page you can see how it looks so far. Hopefully by looking at each other’s photographs amateurs can get new ideas, see alternative ways to frame, light and capture the sort of images which I know we all find interesting and educational. An additional attraction might be that a worldwide audience is able to see your work, rather than just a few friends.

Although this would be on the web you do not need any special equipment. Prints and slides can be sent to me, scanned into my computer and put on the website. For those with Digital cameras images may be e-mailed to the address below. All photos posted to me will of course be returned so please include your return address, return postage would be appreciated though is not essential.

I will include a copyright and authors name superimposed on your photos before they are published. The intention is that the quality of images available on the website will be sufficient to allow good viewing on the monitor screen but not high enough to allow prints to be made. We want to spread ideas, not copy each other’s results or for you to see them in a magazine somewhere. Any correspondance which may result will be passed on to you, I mention this as I have in fact sold photos to publications in America as a result of the images appearing on my own website.

To summarise:

You can send contributions as slides or prints.

As far as digital images are concerned an approximate maximum size of 600 pixels square is needed and jpg format is preferred.

With all pictures please include details of the subject, location and date. Details of the camera, lens and any special techniques used would be helpful, if appropriate.

So, why not share your expertise with the world. Who knows where it might lead!

You can send contributions to:
