Dear Flora Recorder
Firstly, please accept my apologies for the long gap in communications and the lack of the promised provisional atlases during 2001.
I am pleased to report that none of this seems to have deterred you from getting on with recording and, despite the problems with access during the FMD outbreak, we received a very large number of new survey forms. Problems with a new upgrade to our recording software here at SBRC has delayed the processing of these forms, but this should be rectified in the next month or so.
If you need species lists for particular tetrads please bear with us until we have processed last year's data and have mastered the new software. We are not yet able to produce an updated coverage map with tetrad totals, but in the meantime we have produced the map below which gives a good idea of the worst recorded squares. These should be the target for this year especially those in TL96, TM04, TMl6 and TM26. Many of the tetrads on the county border and the coast only have very small areas within Suffolk and so will naturally have lower totals.

On the plus side we now have access to some expensive new hardware and a GIS (Geographic Information System) so will be able to analyse distributions using a wide range of environmental data that is available in this format. I hope to organise a recording meeting in one of the under-recorded areas later in the year and hope we shall see some of you then. I hope you have a successful recording season.
