SUFFOLK BIRD REPORT 2001
HELP NEEDED!

The Suffolk Bird Report for 2000 should be available shortly. As is the nature of these things, preparations are already beginning for the next Report. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons I will have less time to dedicate to the Report than I have in the past. There are a number of elements that I have prepared for the past few years that I need someone to take over.

These are:

  1. Review of the Year:
this covers the weather and major bird-related events and makes (in my efforts) a feeble attempt to relate the two together. You will need to do some research into the weather (1 have used published newspaper summaries as a base in the past). You will be supplied with early drafts of the species accounts. By its nature this has to be done quite late in the process and in a relatively short time-scale.
  2. Rarities Report:
this covers the rarer species that have occurred during the year My versions have looked at the background of those species, tried to put the occurrence in the context of other records of that species elsewhere in the year or historically and, finally, summarised the events associated with its discovery and the submitted description. A new author is welcome to come up with his or her own approach but I would have thought most of those elements are essential.
  3. Regional Review:
covers the major events in the neighbouring counties, as detailed in the last available report, usually the preceding year. We have an exchange agreement with Norfolk and Cambridgeshire and copies of those reports will be provided (to be returned!). Essex proved harder to get hold of last year and I had, eventually, to borrow a copy (thanks, Phillip!). If necessary, any purchase will be reimbursed. This tends to be a part of the Report that can be completed reasonably early in the year.

Look forward to hearing from you!
