SHARKS, SHELLS & NIGHTINGALES
10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Saunter for adults and children along the river bank of the Deben Estuary to look for exposed fossils from crags and older clays. The geology consists of London Clay, Coralline Crag and Red Crag, with numerous fossils washed out on the foreshore. Chances, also, to hear Nightingales. Eric Parsons and Colin Hawes will jointly lead this event.
Note: There is a walk of about one mile to reach the 'Rocks' site. with a steep part which might not suit all. Bring packed lunch and stout waterproof footwear. Meet at the car park at the top of the slope leading to Ramsholt Quay TM309415.

A DAY AT BARNHAM HEATH
An opportunity to visit this SSSI and to add to the recording effort of 1999. Meet 10.00 a.m. on the road between the A143 and A1088 from Barnham to Euston three miles south of Thetford at TL887793. Please bring a packed lunch for this all day event. Moth trapping at night may be possible.

GIPPING VALLEY
Field-meeting to see Chalk, Tertiary and Glacial deposits at some fast-disappearing exposures. Meet at Bramford picnic site TM 128463, near the bridges, at 10.30 a.m. Bramford is about 3 miles north-west of Ipswich. We shall be driving on from the meeting-place. Bring packed lunch and stout footwear (it may be very muddy!). You may be required to sign an indemnity form. This is a joint meeting with the Geological Society of Norfolk.

CARLTON MARSHES, SUFFOLK WILDLIFE TRUST RESERVE, CARLTON COLVILLE
10.00 a.m. The first part of the day will be spent with the Warden, Nick Sanderson who will explain about this unique reserve. After lunch there will be a chance to explore the reserve with the chance to see Muntjac deer and the rare Norfolk Hawker Dragonfly. Meet at the Visitors Centre, Bumt Hill Lane off the A 146 Beccles to Lowestoft road TM 508921.

Field-meeting to see fossiliferous Chalk, Crag and Forest Bed, and Glacial deposits with giant erratics. Meet at West Runton Gap car park (small fee) at the cliff top TG 185432 at 11 a.m. West Runton is on the North Norfolk coast, between Cromer and Sheringham. Wear stout footwear. There are toilets and a cafe' near the car park. This is a joint meeting with the Geological Society of Norfolk.

Field-meeting to see Norwich Crag and overlying clays and gravels (are these of Crag, proto-Thames or glacial age?). Meet at Covehithe Church TM 513819 at10.30 a.m. Bring packed lunch and stout footwear. Covehithe is about 5 miles north of Southwold. This is a joint meeting with the Geological Society of Norfolk.

Field-meeting to study and collect from fossiliferous Coralline and Red Crags east of Woodbridge, and see a Pliocene island. Meet at Woodbridge Rail Station car park at 10.00 a.m. We shall drive on from there. Bring packed lunch and stout footwear.
This is a joint meeting with the Essex Rock and Mineral Society, the Essex Group of the Geologists Association and the Geological Society of Norfolk!
