I have revised the Suffolk checklist in line with this publication so that it is now fully up to date. The British Bryological Society has just published its latest Checklist and Census Catalogue of British and Irish Bryophytes. This incorporates a number of name changes and some revision of distribution following careful checking of existing records. The last published list of Suffolk Mosses and Liverworts was that of A. Mayfield (1930) who listed 53 species and varieties of Liverwort and 250 of Mosses. The current list comprises 76 species and varieties of Liverwort and 270 of Mosses. Many of Mayfield's varieties are not recognised today so the increase in our bryophyte flora is actually greater than indicated by these figures.
