The appearance of some Common Broom Rape on the lawn inspired Audrey Smither at Needham Market to see what else the apparently uniform green carpet might be harbouring. So, she left it unmown this year and in August recorded the following:
|
White Clover |
Yarrow |
Common Vetch |
|
Creeping Buttercup |
Daisy |
Ribwort Plantain |
|
Black Medick |
Mouse Ear |
Common Bindweed |
|
Dandelion |
Smooth Hawksbeard |
Common Ragwort |
|
Herb Bennet |
Selfheal |
Heath Speedwell |
|
Heartsease |
|
Barren Brome |
Wall Barley |
Timothy |
|
Perennial Rye Grass |
Yorkshire Fog |
Fine Bent |
|
Slender False Brome |
Cocksfoot |
False Oat. |
This demonstration of the resilience of nature is remarkable. In spite of years of mowing all these species have survived. Leave your lawn to grow next year and see if you can beat this record.
